VaVoom

Randee Ryder, who also goes by "Nadira al Devora" or "Bubbles VaVoom" works at a hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to support her dance habit. Besides a BS in Biology and one in Education, she holds an Associates in Theatrical Costume design. After beginning her mania for costumes as a child, drawing new looks for favorite paperdolls, she spent 15 years post-grad, gaining costume experience as the designer / costume mistress for a large childrens dance group. Her experiences include costuming such beloved classics as "The Sound of Music", "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe", and "The Nutcracker Ballet". Her personal goal is to spread abroad and reinforce the belief that "beauty does not stop at size 2" and that "chocolate is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy". Randee studies Bellydance with Deborah Oldham, (KittieSparkle) of Tulsa School of Bellydance. Randee can be contacted at sheriktrek@aol.com

Description:

Introduction to American Tribal Style

American Tribal Style (ATS) is an improvisational style of belly dancing. Students will learn basic formations, movements, and cues in order to dance together in unison without the use of choreography.

Definitions of different kinds of dance:

Cabaret style is the glitzier and more flamboyant style of belly dance.

Beladi is Egyptian for country or folk dance.
Saidi comes from the folk traditions of Upper Egypt and the style is playful and a lot of fun. It includes stick dancing (cane).
Ghawazee originated from Egyptian Gypsy dances. The movements are fast with a lot of hip movement.
Fellahi style has lots of shimmies and repitions
Karsilama is a Turkish dance.
Kalegi or Khaliji is a dance performed among women in the Persian Gulf. Costumes are props.

Tribal is a blend of different ethnic styles in movement and costume. There are catergories in tribal style such as:

Old School/Classic Tribal Bellydance: These are " folkloric" groups performing at Renaissance Faires.
"FatChance" Style ATS: FatChance and Carolena Nericcio were the ones who first coined the term ATS (American Tribal Style)
Tribal Fusion: There are many interpretations to tribal fusion. It is choreographed and has improvisational forms.
Tribaret: It is a fusion of tribal bellydance--usually in costume only--with the cabaret style of bellydance,
Urban Tribal: A fusion of hip hop, funk, club dance, and modern dance.
Alternative Bellydance/Alternative Tribal: They dance with slow, tension-filled snakelike movements and have pop n' lock stylings from breakdancing
